Spartans’ forward Kierra Wheeler has been named HBCU National Player of the Week. She was named MEAC Tournament MVP and helped lead the Spartans to their first tournament championship in 21 years after averaging 16.3 points per game, 8.7 rebounds per game, while shooting 57 percent from the field. In the Spartans’ semi-final victory over North Carolina Central (3/10), she scored a season high 22 points and grabbed 12 rebounds, while shooting 63 percent from the field (10-of-16).
In her first year with the Spartans, Wheeler leads the MEAC in field goal percentage (.549) and rebounding (8.5). She is averaging 11.0 points per game and has recorded nine double doubles on the season.
