With South Carolina winning the women’s Division I national championship ending the season, BOXTOROW releases its annual All-America teams.
Alabama State forward Britney Wright was named BOXTOROW Division I Women’s National Player of the Year. This is also the third year in a row Wright was named BOXTOROW First Team All-America.
Wright was also named SWAC Player of the Year. The senior forward from Detroit finished tied for first in the SWAC in scoring (18.3), led the SWAC in free throw percentage (.786), was fourth in rebounds (7.5) and averaged 1.4 steals per game. She scored 20 or more points in a game 14 times and three times scored 30 or more points in a game.
Bethune-Cookman head coach Vanessa Blair-Lewis and Grambling head coach Freddie Murray were named BOXTOROW Co-Coaches of the Year. Blair-Lewis led the Lady Wildcats to the MEAC regular season crown, finishing 15-1 and a berth in the postseason WNIT. As the interim head coach, Murray guided the Lady Tigers to a share of the SWAC regular season title and a first round victory over Mississippi in the WNIT.
