The HBCU Polls: Southern’s win over Alcorn State causes shifts in polls; JSU remains on top

The Jackson State Tigers remain No. 1 in HBCU football with the release of the BOXTOROW Coaches and Media Polls. The Tigers received all but one first place vote.

In the coaches poll, Southern victory over Alcorn State moved the Jaguars up three spots to No. 4. Florida A&M also moved up a spot to No. 3. Alcorn State dropped four spots to No. 7.

In the media poll, Southern went from not being ranked two weeks ago to No. 6 this week. No. 5 Benedict made its first top five appearance in the poll after knocking off No. 7 Albany State who fell three spots from last week. Fort Valley State and Hampton reentered the poll at No. 9 and No. 10, respectively.

The HBCU FCS coaches and media polls are administered by BOXTOROW. The coaches poll, in its 13th year is voted on by the HBCU Football Championship Subdivision coaches and the media poll, in its 15th year, is voted on by media members around the country who cover HBCU football.
