Bryant leads HBCU All-Americans.
As the Sweet 16 of the NCAA Division I Men’s Basketball Tournament commences, the 15th HBCU All-America teams powered by BOXTOROW for Division I men’s college basketball were released.
Norfolk State guard Joe Bryant, Jr. has been selected HBCU National Player of the Year for the second year in a row. Bryant finished as the free throw percentage leader in the MEAC (.840), was third in the MEAC in scoring (17.8), fourth in steals (1.8), and averaged 4.4 rebounds and 3.1 assists per game. Bryant also scored 20 or more points in a game 13 times this season. Bryant also repeated as MEAC Player of the Year.
Howard head coach Kenny Blakeney has been named HBCU National Coach of the Year. In his fourth season as the head coach of the Bison, Blakeney led Howard to is first regular season MEAC championship since the 1991-92 season. The Bison also won the MEAC Tournament championship and the automatic berth in the NCAA Division I Men’s Basketball Tournament. Howard finished the season 22-13.
Eleven schools are represented on this year’s BOXTOROW All-America teams. BOXTOROW has administered the All-America team since 2009.
