As the Women’s Division I NCAA Final Four approaches, the HBCU Women’s All-America teams powered by BOXTOROW for the 2022-23 season are released.
Alabama State guard Ayana Emmanuel and Howard guard Destiny Howell were named HBCU Co-Players of the Year. Emmanuel led the SWAC in scoring (16.8) and averaged 4.5 rebounds per game. Last year’s first team HBCU All-American scored exactly 2,000 points for her career. She was named the SWAC Player of the Year. Howell led the MEAC in scoring (18.6) and three-point field goal percentage (.356) and was named MEAC Player of the Year.
Norfolk State head coach Larry Vickers was named BOXTOROW Coach of the Year. Vickers’ Spartans broke through this season, winning the MEAC regular season and tournament championships. The Spartans finished 11-3 in conference play and 26-7 overall, with nine more wins than last year. The Spartans appearance in this year’s NCAA Division I Women’s Tournament was just the second in the programs’ history and first since 2002.
BOXTOROW has released the Women’s All-America teams since the 2015-16 season. Players from nine different schools were represented.
