Coppin State, Morgan State, and Texas Southern were all atop respective division and conference standings so it makes sense that each school had multiple players named to the 13th annual BOXTOROW All-America teams for Division I men’s college basketball.

Hampton guard Davion Warren and Coppin State guard Anthony Tarke were named BOXTOROW Players of the Year. Warren, a senior from Buffalo, N.Y., led the Big South and is 13th in the country in scoring (21.2). Warren scored 20 or more points in 18 games, including in seven straight games and scored 30 or more points three times. He also led the conference in steals (2.1), was fifth in rebounds (6.3), fourth in field goal percentage (.459), and averaged three assists per game. Tarke, who was named MEAC Player of the Year, led the conference in rebounding (8.2) and blocked shots (1.9), was third in scoring (16.1), and second in steals (2.1). Tarke also averaged 3.6 assists per game and shot 47 percent from the field.

Morgan State head coach Kevin Broadus and Prairie View A&M head coach Byron Smith were named BOXTOROW Coaches of the Year. Broadus, in his second season at the helm at MSU, led the Bears to a MEAC best 14-8 record, including a 3-1 record against Division I non-conference opponents. Smith, who was named SWAC Coach of the Year, wins the award for the second time. He led the Panthers to an unblemished 13-0 regular season conference record and a 16-5 overall record.

Fourteen schools are represented on this year’s BOXTOROW All-America teams.  BOXTOROW has administered the All-America team since 2009.
