Washington Redskins second-year wide receiver Jamison Crowder knows a good football player when he sees one.
Crowder is emerging as one of the better young wide receivers in the NFL and despite the Redskins 20-17 loss to the Lions on Sunday, played well, catching seven passes for 108 yards.
Last year, the fourth-round pick from Duke broke the Redskins rookie receptions record formerly held by Pro Football Hall of Famer Art Monk by catching 59 passes.
Crowder appeared as a guest on the nationally syndicated radio program FROM THE PRESS BOX TO PRESS ROW w/ Donal Ware. Growing up in Monroe, NC, he indicated that before high school and before the bigger schools started recruiting him, all he knew was HBCU football and more specifically North Carolina A&T.
His father played wide receiver at A&T in the mid-to-late 70’s and he would go to many Aggie games growing up.
“That’s all I really knew growing up was A&T football,” Crowder said. “Even now, I try to get in and check the scores or if A&T is playing on [TV] I try and watch the games. I’m still a fan of the Aggies.”
When Ware asked him about Aggies star running back Tarik Cohen, Crowder replied, “Yeah I follow him a lot, he’s definitely one of the top guys playing college football right now. And I say that [Division I-AA or Division I] what he does out there on the field, it’s crazy, it’s amazing.”
A senior from Bunn, N.C., Cohen became the MEAC’s all-time leading rusher on October 6 he rushed for 200 yards against Norfolk State and had a scintillating 62-yard touchdown run which gave him the all-time record. Against Howard on Saturday, Cohen rushed for 133 yards and has now surpassed 5,000 rushing yards in his career and has rushed for over 1,000 yards in each of his four seasons.
Crowder also knows a thing or two about records. His 283 career receptions at Duke are tied for the most all-time in ACC history. He also returned five punts for touchdowns during his career.
