[/insert_php]Losses amongst the top five teams caused movement in both the BOXTOROW Coaches and Media Polls.
North Carolina A&T won the MEAC championship on Saturday and remained No. 1, receiving all but two first place votes after defeating last year’s MEAC champion North Carolina Central. The Aggies remain undefeated and NCCU remains at No. 7.
The No. 2 ranked Grambling Tigers were off last week and received the other two first place votes. Southern was also off, but moved up to No. 3. Bethune-Cookman moved up to No. 4 after its victory over Florid A&M in the Florida Classic and Alcorn State rounds out the top five, dropping two spots after falling to rival Jackson State.
In the media poll, Virginia State and Bowie State lost first round NCAA Division II playoff games, ending their seasons. VSU remained at No. 3 and BSU dropped a spot to No. 5. Alcorn State, Howard and NCCU all dropped from last week, while Bethune-Cookman reentered the poll at No. 10 after its win over Florida A&M. Langston also lost a first round NAIA playoff game and dropped out of the poll.
