Florida A&M controlled its own destiny towards the MEAC title and Celebration Bowl berth, but lost a bit of control of that destiny with its loss to Howard. And with North Carolina A&T’s victory over Norfolk State, the Aggies regained the top spot in the BOXTOROW Coaches and Media Polls, receiving all but three first place votes. It is the third time the Aggies have been ranked No. 1 this season.
Despite Alcorn State’s 52-42 loss to FBS opponent New Mexico State, the Braves received three first place votes in the coaches poll and moved up a spot from last week to No. 2. FAMU dropped to No. 3. Southern was idle and remained at No. 4, while Grambling moved up to No. 5 after defeatingArkansas Pine Bluff. Tennessee State dropped out of the top five after falling to Southeast Missouri and sits at No. 9.
North Carolina A&T, Alcorn State and Florida A&M sit No. 1, No. 2 and No.3 in a split vote in the media poll, with North Carolina A&T receiving a majority of the votes. Florida A&M received three more first place votes than Alcorn State. Virginia Union defeated Virginia State and won its second straight game and enters the poll for the first time this season atNo. 8. Howard reenters the poll at No. 10.
