BOXTOROW Polls: Southern v Grambling cause slight shifts, Alcorn, N.C. A&T remain No. 1

With just two weekends left in the HBCU football season, the BOXTOROW Coaches and Media Polls are starting to take shape.

The top three teams in the coaches poll remained the same. Alcorn State remains No. 1 heading into the SWAC championship game and received all but three first place votes. Those votes went to No. 3 Florida A&M, who came in five points behind defending champion North Carolina A&T. Southern’s win over Grambling in the Bayou Classic on Saturday moved the Jaguars up to No. 4, leapfrogging South Carolina State. The Tigers dropped one spot to No. 8.

North Carolina A&T remained No. 1 in the media poll, receiving 11 first place votes. No. 2 Alcorn State received the remaining first place votes. The Tigers dropped one spot to No. 8, while the Jaguars moved up one spot to No. 5.

Southern will travel to Lorman, MS on Saturday to take on the defending SWAC champion Braves in a rematch of last year’s championship game.

 

The BOXTOROW HBCU FCS coaches poll and media poll is administered by FROM THE PRESS BOX TO PRESS ROW. The coaches poll, in its 11th year is voted on by the HBCU Football Championship Subdivision coaches and the media poll, in its 13th year, is voted on by media members around the country who cover HBCU football.
