COVID-19 brought to an early end the college basketball season. While some of the teams did not get to fulfil hopes of competing in NCAA Tournaments, some of the players had outstanding seasons and are recognized as BOXTOROW releases its 12th annual Division II All-America teams.
Livingstone guard Roger Ray has been named BOXTOROW Division II Player of the Year. The senior from Raleigh, N.C. led the CIAA and ranked 14th in Division II in scoring (23.6), led the CIAA in assists (5.0), and was second in the CIAA in three-point field goal percentage (.367). He had six games in which he scored 30 or more points including a 45-point performance against Virginia State (12/5/19), where he also recorded a triple double with 10 assists and 10 rebounds.
Miles coach Fred Watson was named BOXTOROW Coach of the Year. In his second season at Miles, Watson has led the Golden Bears to the SIAC Tournament championship for the second straight season. Miles finished the 2019-20 season 24-4 and won 16 of its last 17 games. Watson becomes the second coach to win the award as head coach of two different teams (Lonnie Blow), winning the award as head coach at Benedict in 2013.
BOXTOROW has administered the All-America teams since 2009.
