Jackson State dominates winning four BOXTOROW HBCU Superlative Awards

Jackson State had three players and its head football coach receive four of the six BOXTOROW Superlative Awards. The awards are part of the HBCU college football All-America team, released on Monday.

Alabama A&M quarterback Aqeel Glass was voted BOXTOROW Offensive Player of the Year, while Florida A&M linebacker Isaiah Land was selected BOXTOROW Willie Davis Defensive Player of the Year. Jackson State head coach Deion Sanders was voted BOXTOROW Coach of the Year. Jackson State kick returner Isaiah Bolden was voted the BOXTOROW Special Teams Player of the Year.

Shedeur Sanders was named Impact Player of the Year, an award given by BOXTOROW and he was also named BOXTOROW Rookie of the Year.

Glass, a senior from St. Louis, Mo. and the BOXTOROW Offensive Player of the Year in the spring, is fifth in FCS in passing yards (3,568), ranks sixth in FCS in touchdown passes (36) and threw for 400 or more yards in a game five times. Glass is the third player to win the award in back-to-back seasons.

Land, a redshirt-junior from Buffalo, N.Y., leads the nation in sacks (19), and tackles for loss (25.5). He recorded 43 tackles (32 solo), three pass breakups, and forced three fumbles on the season. Land is one of three finalists for the Buck Buchanan Award.

Bolden, a junior from Tampa, Fla., leads the nation in kick return average (36.2) and has returned two kickoffs for touchdowns. Bolden has also returned five punts for 49 yards.

Shedeur Sanders, a true freshman from Canton, Texas, is currently third in FCS in completion percentage (.679), completing 256-of-377 passes for 3,056 yards with 29 touchdowns. He also rushed for three touchdowns and threw for 300 or more yards in a game three times this year.

Deion Sanders is in his second season as the head coach at Jackson State. He has led the Tigers to a 11-1 record and the No. 1 ranking in the HBCU Coaches and Media Polls. JSU will take on South Carolina State in the Celebration Bowl on Saturday in Atlanta with the HBCU national championship on the line. BOXTOROW will release the final polls which will determine the HBCU national champion.
