For the first time ever Jackson State is No. 1 in HBCU football as the BOXTOROW HBCU Coaches and Media Polls were released on Monday. Previous No. 1 Alabama A&M’s loss to Grambling State opened the door for the JSU Tigers who had a bye week. The Tigers received 13 of 18 first place votes with the coaches and all but two of the first place votes from the media.
In the coaches poll, No. 2 North Carolina A&T received two of the first place votes and moved up one spot from. No. 3 Prairie View A&M also moved up one spot from last week, while Alabama A&M received two first place votes but dropped to No. 4. Alcorn State rounded out the top five.
In the media poll, AAMU dropped to No. 5. Chowan, who is one of two teams in HBCU football who is undefeated, makes an appearance in the poll for the first time in a while, debuting at No. 9. South Carolina State reenters the poll at No. 10.
The BOXTOROW HBCU FCS coaches and media polls are administered by FROM THE PRESS BOX TO PRESS ROW. The coaches poll, in its 12th year is voted on by the HBCU Football Championship Subdivision coaches and the media poll, in its 14th year, is voted on by media members around the country who cover HBCU football.
