The newly formed HBCU Division II coaches poll powered by BOXTOROW reveals its first-ever top-10 ranking to begin the 2022 season and for the first time ever.
The Bowie State Bulldogs, the three-time defending CIAA champions, begin the season No. 1. BSU received 20 of 24 first place votes and beat out No. 2 Albany State – the defending SIAC champions by a wide margin. ASU received three first place votes. Fayetteville State, who has played in four-straight CIAA championship games, is No. 3, followed by Savannah State at No. 4, and Virginia Union rounding out the top 5.
There are 27 HBCU NCAA Division II schools and are eligible for the poll, which includes schools from the CIAA and SIAC and Lincoln (Mo.) and West Virginia State.
The poll will be released each Tuesday during the season.
