North Carolina Central defeated its rival North Carolina A&T in convincing fashion and for the first time this year was voted No. 1 in the HBCU FCS Coaches Poll which was released on Monday. The Eagles received 10 of the 19 first place votes. The defending HBCU national champions Florida A&M Rattles slipped to No. 2 after their loss to FBS opponent Troy, but still managed five first place votes.

The Grambling Tigers moved to 3-1 on the season after defeating Jackson State and jumped seven spots from last week to No. 3 this week. The Tigers received two first place votes. No. 4 Hampton also made a significant jump, up four spots from last week. Morgan State remained at No. 5, rounding out the top five.

The HBCU FCS Coaches Poll is administered by BOXTOROW, and in its 16th year, is voted on by the HBCU Football Championship Subdivision coaches.
