Bobby Dandridge on finally being announced for induction into the Naismith Memorial Hall of Fame.
NBA great Bobby Dandridge should have been inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame years ago. He was an integral part of two NBA championships teams, the 1971 Milwaukee Bucks and the 1978 Washington Bullets. During the 1970-71 season, the second for Dandridge, he averaged 18.4 points per game, third behind Kareem Abdul-Jabbar and Oscar Robertson. During the playoffs that year, he averaged 19.2 points per game. In 1978, Dandridge also stepped up his scoring in the playoffs again, averaging 21.1 points per game, almost two points more per game than during the regular season. He played on that team with two more Hall of Famers, Elvin Hayes and Wes Unseld. Dandridge scored more points in the NBA Finals in the 1970’s – 450 in four NBA Finals – than any other player. Dandridge talked with Donal Ware about whether or not he felt he had been snubbed from the Hall of Fame, the championships in 1971 and 1978, about the Bucks winning this year’s championship, about the current direction of the Washington Wizards, and about his time playing at Norfolk State and in the CIAA.
