North Carolina Central cornerback Ryan Smith expects to hear his name called in the 2016 NFL Draft. And he is so grounded in his upbringing that they day before the draft, he was doing yard work.
The Upper Marlboro, Md. native only played one season of football at Wise High School and his only scholarship offer was a partial one to NCCU.
After redshirting his freshman year, all Smith went onto do was break school career records for solo tackles (168) and kickoff return yard average (28.1). Among NCCU career leaders he finished sixth in tackles with 263 and tied for 11th in passes defended with 31 (7 interceptions, 24 pass break-ups). He played in 45 games, including 42 as a starter. H was named BOXTOROW All-America honorable mention in 2015.
