Bethune-Cookman to play Florida for regional baseball championship

Last year Coastal Carolina shocked Division I baseball by winning the CWS National Championship Series. Bethune-Cookman is looking for the second year in a row to become the small school to achieve the same feat.

B-CU is a long way away from that goal. The Wildcast are however a game away from winning the Gainesville Regional championship. B-CU is the first Division I HBCU program to advance to a regional championship. The Wildcats face host Florida in the second championship game today at 4:00 p.m. ET. The Wildcats defeated the Gators 6-2 last night in the first championship game.

The No. 3 seed Wildcats lost to USF 9-1 on Friday, defeated Marist on Saturday, then defeated USF 6-4 early on Sunday before handing Florida its first loss.

Coastal Carolina knocked off Florida last year in the College World Series to advance to the CWS National Championship Series where they took two of three from Arizona to win it all.

Can the Wildcats defeat Florida and win the Gainesville Regional and move on to the Super Regional? BOXTOROW host Donal Ware sat down with B-CU sixth-year head coach Jason Beverlin to talk about the Wildcats chances, his thoughts on the Wildcats performance so far in the tournament and how baseball in the MEAC has helped his program.
