BOXTOROW hosted its fourth Countdown to Kickoff live from Zweli’s Kitchen in Durham, NC. The radio show provided a forum for seven coaches from North Carolina institutions who play HBCU football to come together for fellowship and football talk.
The annual event has become somewhat of a summit. So much so that local televsion stations ABC11, WRAL and CBS17 covered the event. Raleigh’s daily newspaper News & Observer also covered the event. It allowed for media to also have an opportunity to talk with the coaches, helping to promote the various programs which aren’t covered as regularly as some of the bigger programs. The coaches – Trei Oliver of North Carolina Central, Adrian Jones of Shaw, Tim Chavous of Saint Augustine’s, Anthony Jones of Elizabeth City State, Tim Place of Chowan, Richard Hayes of Fayetteville State, and Robert Massey of Winston-Salem – talked with national radio host Donal Ware about their upcoming team’s seasons.
