With Grambling’s convincing 52-30 win over Southern in the Bayou Classic in New Orleans, the Tigers not only remained No. 1 in the BOXTOROW Coaches and Media Polls, but widened their margin.
GSU received all but four first place votes in the coaches poll.
Despite losses by North Carolina A&T to Richmond in the first round of the FCS Playoffs and Southern’s loss to Grambling, both remained No. 3 and No. 4, respectively.
In the media poll, Grambling outpaced NCCU in first-place votes, receiving all but two. Last week, the Tigers received just two more first-place votes than the Eagles and only one point separated the two teams. This week, GSU leads NCCU by six points.
The order in the media poll remained unchanged.
The next and final polls will be released on Monday, December 19 when the HBCU national champions will be named. Two games will take place between then as Alcorn and Grambling will meet in the SWAC championship game this Saturday. The winner of that game will play NCCU in the Celebration Bowl in Atlanta on December 17.
The BOXTOROW HBCU FCS coaches poll and the media poll are administered by FROM THE PRESS BOX TO PRESS ROW. The coaches poll is voted on by the HBCU Football Championship Subdivision coaches and the media poll is voted on by media members around the country who cover HBCU football.
