TSU’s Draylen Ellis, again
Tennessee State Quarterback Draylen Ellis
6-1, 175, Graduate Student, Olive Branch, Miss.
It is rare that a player is named HBCU National Player of the Week twice in a season, but that is exactly what has happened for Tennessee State quarterback Draylen Ellis. He completed 20-of-31 passes for 232 yards with two touchdowns and no interceptions and rushed for 46 yards on seven carries and a touchdown as the Tigers defeated SEMO 28-21 to win a share of the Big South-OVC title. The win also propelled the Tigers into the FCS Playoffs. It was the first conference title for the Tigers since 1999 and will be their first playoff appearances since 2013.
Ellis has the best touchdown to interception ratio in the Big South-OVC (22-7), is second in touchdown passes (22), and fourth in passing yards (2,733). He is completing 61 percent of his passes and has also rushed for 134 yards and two touchdowns.
