Carried the ball 35 times for a career-high 324 yards, averaging 9.3 yards per carry and a career high six touchdowns as the Panthers defeated Bowie State 56-28 to remain in contention for the CIAA championship game. Byers also had two receptions for 16 yards.
In the game Byers became the Panthers’ all-time leading rusher, passing running back Andre Braxton’s mark of 5,008 yards. Byers has rushed for 5,311 yards in his career. He has rushed for 300 or more yards in a game twice his during his career and rushed for 200 or more in 10 games. He is second in Division II and leads the CIAA in rushing yards (1,291) and rushing touchdowns (19), and is third in D2 and leads the CIAA in yards per carry (7.7). He is a two-time HBCU All-American.
