The Jackson State Tigers continued their winning ways, coming from behind to defeat Southern in Baton Rouge on Saturday and in the process wrapped up the SWAC’s Eastern Division, punching their ticket to the SWAC championship game. The Tigers remain No. 1 in HBCU football also, as the BOXTOROW Coaches and Media Polls that were released on Monday. The Tigers continue to be the unanimous selection in both polls
The Prairie View A&M Panthers fell to Alcorn State and moved down a spot to No. 3 in the coaches poll, while Alcorn moved up two spots to No. 6. Norfolk State and South Carolina State both fell in the poll after losses while North Carolina Central reentered the poll at No. 9.
Meanwhile, Bowie State moved up to No. 3 in the media poll, its highest ranking of the season after the Bulldogs won their third straight CIAA championship game, defeating No. 8 Fayetteville State. No. 6 Alcorn State and No. 8 Alabama A&M reentered the poll.
