Takeaways from Week 12’s HBCU FCS Coaches Poll:

  • Jackson State is No. 1 for the third straight week; has won its last seven including Saturday’s road win over Alabama State to clinch the SWAC East and a championship game berth
  • No. 2 South Carolina State wrapped up the MEAC’s Celebration Bowl berth with its victory over Morgan State; continues to gain on JSU, receiving seven of 19 first place votes
  • No. 3 Tennessee State kept its Big South-OVC conference championship and FCS Playoffs hopes alive with its victory over Gardner-Webb
  • No. 4 North Carolina Central kept its FCS Playoff hopes alive with its win over Howard
  • No. 5 Southern’s win over Arkansas-Pine Bluff clinched the SWAC West for the Jaguars; will face JSU in the SWAC championship game

The HBCU FCS Coaches Poll is administered by BOXTOROW, and in its 16th year, is voted on by the HBCU Football Championship Subdivision coaches.
