As I try and gather the words to talk about the passing of a friend, mentor, colleague, the man responsible for the way that HBCU sports was and has been disseminated, I will leave you with this conversation that Eric Moore and I had on August 20, 2015 as he was part of BOXTOROW’s 10-year celebration. (He was also in-person for the celebration of 15 years in 2020).

This photo is one of my favorite photos. It shows (l to r): Atlanta sports personality Sam Smith, Danielle Wright, then SID at Clark Atlanta, Mr. Moore, another pioneer Lut Williams, me and the great Stan Lewter. This was from SIAC media, circa 2010, 2011, or 2012.

For two or three years, Mr. Moore, Lut, and I (and occasionally others) would drive to all four football media days (SWAC, SIAC, CIAA, MEAC) to talk with coaches and players about their respective teams. More so, it was camaraderie of seeing fellow media members and coming together for something common: The love of HBCU sports (football).

And that’s what Mr. Moore had. He was HBCU sports.

On the weekend edition of BOXTOROW, I will share stories about Mr. Moore, times with him, and his legacy on HBCU sports. In the interim, listen to Eric Moore in his own word.
