About Donal
Ware
Donal Ware,
a native of Silver Spring, MD is one of the new and fresh faces
and voices as well as a young innovator in the Black college sports
industry. His broadcast career has now spanned 12 years. Upon graduation
from Morgan State University in 1998 with a degree in Telecommunications
with a concentration in Broadcast Journalism, Ware accepted the
position of sports information director at North Carolina A&T
State University. After two years at A&T, Ware accepted a position
at North Carolina State University as assistant media relations
director, becoming perhaps the first African-American media relations
assistant director at an ACC school. From there, Ware moved on to
become the assistant athletic director for sports information/marketing
at Shaw University.
Radio has always
been Ware’s love. Ware started out as an analyst during Morgan
State football and basketball games in 1997. In 1998, Ware became
the halftime host, under the tutalege of Morgan State legendary
broadcaster Lamont Germany, during the football broadcasts, giving
updates on scores from around the country, analysis of the game,
and putting together student-athlete halftime features. After a
year and a half hiatus from radio, Ware began doing play-by-play
and color commentary for North Carolina A&T basketball games.
In 2001, he called the first and only baseball game broadcasted
in A&T history. During the 2003-04 basketball season, he hosted
and produced the CIAA Report for Sports Radio 850 theBuzz in Raleigh,
one of the top sports radio stations in the region. Ware was also
the executive producer and exclusive radio broadcaster during the
2004 Black College All-Star game in Atlanta. In 2004, Ware formed
the Shaw Bear Sports Radio Network, a network of 11 stations which
aired all of Shaw University’s football games. He also served
as the play-by-play voice of the network until 2007. In 2005, Ware
formed his own company, DWCommunications. That same year he served
as the play-by-play voice for the Aggie-Eagle Classic, after serving
as the color analyst the previous year.
Known in some circles as the John Madden of Black college football
for his voice work in the Black college video game BCFx, during
the 2007 CIAA Tournament Ware received the honor of being named
CIAA Broadcaster of the Year, as voted on by the
CIAA Sports Information Directors Association.
Ware has interviewed the likes of Serena Williams, Jim Brown, Tony
Dungy, Dominique Dawes, and Anthony Anderson just to name a few.
In 2007, Ware
served as the play-by-play voice for North Carolina Central football
games. He currently handles play-by-play duties for Classics Sports
Radio Network.
