Howard Broadcasts Football Games for first
time in Two Decades
Fuquay-Varina, NC – DWCommunications, LLC
has played a vital role in helping to put together the Howard
University Sports Network. For the first time in more than 20
years, fans can hear Bison football on the radio. The Bison football
games, which have been carried over the Internet the past two
years, will be heard in the Baltimore/Washington metro area, the
Atlanta, GA area and Richmond, VA. DWCommunications will provide
a host of services for the network including public relations
and marketing.
“I am proud to be a part of helping a prestigious
institution such as Howard University put together the Howard
University Sports Network,” said Donal Ware, founder and
CEO of DWCommunications, LLC, who put together the Shaw Bear Sports
Radio Network and whose company owns the broadcast rights to the
national sports talk show FROM THE PRESS BOX TO PRESS ROW. “I
have been associated with Howard University all of my life and
this is a monumental occasion.”
Listeners in the Baltimore/Washington area can
catch the games on WBIS 1190- AM; in the Atlanta area games will
be carried as a simulcast on WATB 1420 AM in Atlanta and east
of Atlanta on WGFS 1430 AM; and in the Richmond area games can
be heard on WCLM 1450-AM. Ty Miller and Tony McGee will call all
of the live action.
WHUR Radio, Howard University’s own FM commercial
station, as well as Bison Express also played a vital role in
putting together Howard University’s first sports radio
network.
“WHUR is happy to be a partner in bringing
Bison sports to areas un-served,” said general manager Jim
Watkins. “This will give alumni and fans in those areas
an opportunity to follow the Bison.”
Howard has broadcast its football games via Internet
for the last two years. Bison Express was instrumental in starting
that process, which has finally led to the games being broadcast
over radio.
Howard head football coach Rayford Petty says
it is a big boost to recruiting.
“It’s great exposure for the program,”
said Petty, who is in his fourth season. “Those are areas
where we can recruit and our fans in that area will be able to
follow us. And I like the fact that it is something we can build
on for the future.”
All games can also still be heard over the Internet
by logging onto www.howard-bison.com.
